Strengthening India-Mauritius Relations
In his post, PM Modi wrote, “Had a warm conversation with my friend @Ramgoolam_Dr, congratulating him on his historic electoral victory. Electoral Triumph in Mauritius
Mauritius held its parliamentary elections on Sunday, with polls open from 7 am to 6 pm. The election, the 12th since the nation’s independence in 1968, saw voters choose 62 legislators from a diverse pool of 68 parties and five alliances.
Pravind Jugnauth, the outgoing Prime Minister, conceded defeat, acknowledging his alliance’s significant loss. Speaking to reporters, he remarked, “The population has decided to choose another team. I wish good luck to the country.”
Dr. Ramgoolam’s Victory and Optimism
Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, a seasoned leader and son of former Prime Minister Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, expressed confidence before the results. He told reporters, “We are heading towards a big victory tomorrow. The people are waiting for this liberation.” His prediction proved accurate, marking a significant political shift in Mauritius.
