Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security on Thursday in response to a recent surge in terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, according to media reports.

The meeting, held this afternoon, was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Sources indicated that PM Modi directed the full deployment of armed forces for counter-terrorism operations.

Last month, PM Modi also chaired a review meeting to assess the security situation in J&K. During that meeting, he spoke with Home Minister Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to get an overview of the security-related situation, including the status of armed forces’ counter-terrorism operations.

In the past nearly three years, over 48 army soldiers have been killed in action in the Jammu region. The Army and J&K Police have launched a major operation in the region to track down militants.

Last night, two soldiers were injured after militants opened fire on a temporary camp of security forces involved in the offensive. This follows the killing of four Army personnel, including an officer, in Doda earlier this week. The incident began late Monday and has intensified the ongoing security operations.

The government is taking all necessary measures to address the security challenges and ensure the safety of the region’s residents.
