During his visit to the landslide-affected Wayanad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed by the Indian Army on the ongoing search and rescue operations, the Army announced on Sunday. The Station Commander of Kannur updated the Prime Minister on the progress of the rescue efforts, while the MEG Task Force Commander provided details on the bridging operations.
During his visit to Wayanad, PM Modi engaged with the Indian Army’s rescue and relief teams at Chooralmala, the epicenter of the landslide, where relentless relief efforts have been underway since the disaster struck. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Governor Arif Muhammed Khan.
On Saturday, the Prime Minister conducted aerial and on-the-ground surveys to assess the situation while the rescue operations were still ongoing. He assured that the central government is fully supporting the state government in all assistance and relief efforts.
PM Modi emphasized that he has been closely monitoring the rescue operations in Wayanad and has maintained constant communication with authorities. He mentioned that disaster management funds have already been released, with the remaining funds to be provided promptly.
The Prime Minister also visited the injured and interacted with those staying in relief camps. During a review meeting, he reassured that the Central Government and the nation stand with the disaster-affected victims during this difficult time.
PM Modi underscored the importance of developing long-term support schemes, particularly for children who have lost their families. He expressed confidence that the state government will play a vital role in these efforts, with full support from the Centre.
The landslides that struck Chooralmala and Mundakkai in Wayanad on July 30, following incessant rainfall, claimed over 300 lives.
