PIL seeks deleting of scenes from ‘Gunjan Saxena’ for unfair portrayal of IAF

A PIL has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the streaming of the film, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, on the OTT platform, Netflix, till the allegedly inaccurate and misleading portrayal of the Indian Air Force in the movie is modified or deleted.

The petitioner, Satyam Singh Rajput, through Advocate Amit Sharma, has stated that “in the garb of creative and artistic freedom, the production house of the film has portrayed the Indian Air Force in undue negative light.” The petition further notes, “Some scenes and dialogues in the movie are factually incorrect and misleading, and portray an inappropriate work culture, to glorify the screen character of former Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena. Several male officers have also been projected as misogynists to suit the film’s false narrative. The false and negative portrayal of the Indian Air Force is an abuse of freedom of expression which ought to be censured.”

“The gender discrimination which has been portrayed in the movie is incorrect, false and misleading. Over and above, it is not factually corroborated. The glorious and prestigious Indian Air Force has ensured that the organization is gender-neutral and has always provided an equal opportunity to both male and female personnel. It is a wellknown fact that the Indian Air Force (IAF) has the largest number of women officers serving actively. The Indian Air Force was the first to open all its branches to women officers, including combat roles in 2015,” the plea said.

The petition filed further explained, “The movie Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl has lowered the standing of the prestigious and glorious Indian Air Force in the eyes of the ordinary citizens. We hold our armed forces in the highest esteem, and show our utmost respect to them. The Indian Air Force which is the epitome of valour, courage and sacrifice cannot be allowed to be portrayed in the negative light. In the garb of artistic and creative freedom, we should not allow the image of our armed forces being tarnished and maligned. The blatant attempt on the part of the production house of the movie to portray and depict the Indian Air Force in the negative light weakens the courage and morale of the next generation of IAF officers.”

The petition also stated, “No other job in the country involves such harsh duty in extreme conditions on land, water, air, even underneath seas. Away from their families and devoid of privileges such as leave on festivals and weekends to convenient work timings and work leisure balance as enjoyed by civilians, armed forces personnel undeniably deserve at least a sense of respect for their tireless duty towards the service of the country and its citizens.”

“The Army Officers spend a majority of their time at the border away from their families, in the service of the nation. A movie/web series portraying the lives of female Indian Air Force officers in such a derogatory and dark light, works to plant seeds of doubt in their minds and imbalance in their families. This would cause irreparable damage to the mental peace and psychological health of the soldiers and hence also negatively impacts their performance, focus and endurance,” the plea added.

‘Katappa did not have double standards’: CM Shinde slams Uddhav’s remark

Published

Eknath-shinde

At a Dussehra rally on Thursday, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde retaliated against Uddhav Thackeray for his remarks against Katappa, claiming that even Katappa had self-respect and did not have double standards.

“They call me ‘Katappa’. I want to tell you that even ‘Katappa’ had self-respect and did not have double standards like you,” Shinde said. Recently, Uddhav Thackeray said, “The only thing I feel angry about is that when I was admitted to the hospital, the people whom I gave the responsibility (of the state) became ‘Katappa’ and betrayed us… They were thinking that I would never return from the hospital.”

In an attack on Uddhav Thackeray, Shinde claimed that Narayan Rane would have taken over as CM if Balasaheb Thackeray had still been alive.

“He (Uddhav Thackeray) didn’t feel ashamed of taking the oath of CM. If Balasaheb Thackeray had been alive he would not have become CM, Balasaheb would have made Narayan Rane CM”, CM added.

At the Dussehra rally on Wednesday at Mumbai’s BKC field, Balasaheb Thackeray’s son, Jaidev Thackeray, attended to show his support and shared the stage with Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde.

Jaidev Thackeray expressed his support for CM Shinde and stated, “Don’t abandon Eknath Shinde by himself. He serves peasants and common people “.

Shiv Sena Dussehra event on MMRDA grounds was attended by Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and members of his faction.

In honour of Balasaheb Thackeray, Shinde spoke. A Mahant from Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh was summoned to perform the “Shashtr pooja” (worship of arms) for the 51-foot-long sword.

Uddhav Thackeray was denounced by Shinde as a traitor for his former party’s affiliation with Congress. “Balasaheb Thackeray made an alliance with the BJP. You did gaddari, but we are not gaddar. You have committed a sin… go apologise to Balasaheb samadhi at Shivaji park”.

Shinde went on to praise his leadership, claiming that Uddhav Thackeray had brought about a revolution while betraying the Maharashtrian people and selling Balasaheb Thackeray’s ideas.

“You point at us for stealing your father, but you have sold your father and the packed ground here shows this,” he said.
Shiv Sena’s Shinde faction leader Ramdas Kadam called out Uddhav Thackeray, saying, “Even your brother, cousins, or Raj Thackeray are not with you. Uddhav ji, if you cannot even keep your family intact, how will you keep the state intact?”
In his attack, Shinde said, “This is not your (Uddhav Thackeray) pvt. ltd company. The Shiv Sena is made up of Shiv-Sainiks who have given their sweat for it. Not for people like you, who did partnerships and sold it.”

When Uddhav Thackeray was in office, he said that for two years, they obeyed all commands while he shattered Balasaheb’s worldview.

“As mentioned by Gulabrao Patil, all the MLAs used to meet me and tell me about their problems because you never met them… I used to give aid to them (MLAs) from my ministry. Why did MLAs and MPs left you? Raj Thackeray, Narayan Rane, and Smita Thackeray left you. Are we all wrong?” he asked.

Prashant Kishor states that he will not work for Nitish Kumar

Published

Prashant Kishor, an election strategist turned politician, said on Wednesday that he would not work for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, even if Nitish vacates the CM’s chair for him. Prashant Kishor stated that he made a promise to the people that he cannot change. He has also revealed that during their last meeting, after Nitish Kumar left the NDA alliance in Bihar and became the chief minister of the Mahagathbandhan in the state, Nitish Kumar asked him to join the JD (U).

“I categorically told the CM that I will not work with him even if he (Nitish Kumar) makes me his political heir or …vacates the chair of CM for me. I said no….I have made a promise to the people…it can’t be changed,” Prashant Kishor said as he addressed a gathering at Jamunia village in the West Champaran district as part of his ongoing 3,500-km Jan Suraah yatra.

Prashant Kishor made frequent references to Nitish Kumar in his addresses during the yatra. “You all must have learnt through media reports that Nitish Kumar had called me to his residence about 10-15 days back. He asked me to lead his party. I said it is not possible,” Prashant Kishor said on Tuesday.

“After losing the 2014 (Lok Sabha) polls, he met me in Delhi, begging for help. I assisted him in winning the 2015 assembly polls as the chief ministerial candidate of the ‘Mahagathbandhan’. Today, he has the temerity to offer ‘gyan’ (wisdom) to me,” he said.

Prashant Kishor joined the JD(U) in 2018 and rose to the position of national vice-president before being expelled due to a disagreement with Nitish Kumar over the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Nitish Kumar recently accused Prashant Kishor of working for the BJP, while the JD(U) questioned Prashant Kishor’s funding for his yatra. Prashant Kishor addressed these concerns, stating that those interested in his funding should be aware that, unlike them, he never engaged in ‘dalaali.’

“Politicians have for long been seeking my advice on how to win elections. Media has been full of praise for my track record as a political strategist. But never before have I asked anybody to lend me money,” he said. “But today I am seeking donations. This is the fee that I am charging towards building this movement which entails expenses like the tent we have put up here,” Prashant Kishor said.

BJP blasts Cong leader for tweet about Droupadi Murmu; ‘Feel like crying when,’ Udit Raj defends

Published

President Murmu

Former MP and Congress leader Udit Raj has landed in hot water for his tweet about President Droupadi Murmu, stating that “no country should have such a President.” The BJP has lashed out at the Congress leader, questioning whether the party supports the insult. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla tweeted, “Udit Raj uses unacceptable language for the 1st woman Adivasi President! Does the Congress endorse this insult of Adivasi samaj?”

Udit Raj is the third Congress leader to face criticism for comments about President Droupadi Murmu, the other two being Ajoy Kumar and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

“After Ajoy Kumar called President Draupadi Murmu as evil & then Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary used the term ‘Rashtrapatni’ now Congress stoops to a new low!” the BJP spokesperson tweeted.

The Congress leader slammed the President for her remarks on salt made during her visit to Gujarat on Monday. According to the President, Gujarat produces 76% of the country’s salt, which is consumed by all Indians.

“No country should get a president like that,” the Congress leader tweeted. As the tweet created a furore, Udit Raj said those were his personal comments and not to be taken as the party’s stand. “Her candidature & campaign were in the name adivasi, it doesn’t mean she is no longer adivasi. My heart cries that when SC/ST reach to higher position, they ditch their communities & become mum,” he said.

Shehzad Poonawalla stated that issuing a statement does not absolve Udit Raj or the Congress. “Simply tweeting that this is a personal statement will not suffice! Congress must tell us whether or not they will ACT ON UDIT RAJ’s Adivasi Virodhi statement. This is the third strike against Murmu ji following the statements of Ajoy Kumar and Adhir Ranjan! It’s not a Sanyog! It is the INC mindset “Poonawalla penned the piece.

According to BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, the words used for President Murmu are concerning and unfortunate. “This isn’t the first time they’ve used such language. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Congress Party also did it. This reflects their anti-tribal stance, according to Patra.

Before the presidential election, when Droupadi Murmu was the NDA’s candidate, Congress leader Ajoy Kumar said she represented India’s “evil philosophy.” The Congress leader also stated that he respects Droupadu Murmu and that his remarks were not directed at him.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a Congress MP, was then chastised for referring to the President as “Rashtrapatni,” for which he later apologised and said it was an error.
