Late on Tuesday, two sisters residing in Khoda, Ghaziabad, heard a knock on their door. Standing outside was a group of neighbors with whom they had a recent argument over walking their pet dogs on the lane. When the sisters, both in their 20s, opened the gate, a confrontation broke out. During the altercation, one of the men pulled out a knife to attack the sisters.
At this point, two of their three pet dogs intervened, attacking the men and driving them away from the house.
“An FIR has been registered today (Thursday) and we have arrested Kunwar Pal, 35, the main accused in the case. We are trying to nab the others,” stated a police official.
The dogs have been taken to a veterinary hospital. “One of them got 25 stitches and the other 18 stitches,” the official added.
The incident occurred while the sisters’ father was returning home from Alwar. Sundar Singh cited to The indian Express, “My neighbour Pal and his landlord along with others got into a spat with my daughters, Poonam, 22, and Puja, 20, when they had taken the dogs out for a walk around 8.30 pm.” Shortly afterward, the neighbors came to their house. “They started misbehaving with my daughters. Our pet dogs Taru and Buzzo intervened. They (the neighbors) attacked my daughters and wounded the dogs with the knife,” Singh claimed.
An FIR was filed under relevant sections. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, SHO of Khoda Police Station, mentioned that they are reviewing CCTV footage to determine the weapon used in the attack.
“One of my dogs was injured very badly. I don’t think he will make it…” said Singh.
