To offer prayers to god for the safety of their cattle and to lodge a protest against the lumpy disease that has been affecting cattle in Rajasthan, people in Jodhpur on Tuesday performed ‘havan’ outside the office of the District Collectorate (DC). The protesting people also submitted a memorandum to the DC to register their protest.
There has been constant agitation amongst the citizens because of the death of a large number of cattle due to the deadly skin disease, as per the State Executive Member of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, Sarwan Choudhary,
The protestors also demanded the government to issue a compensation of Rs 50,000 for their dead cattle and asked for proper treatment for the cows suffering from the disease.
The lumpy disease is a viral disease that affects cattle. It is transmitted by blood-feeding insects, such as certain species of flies, mosquitoes, or ticks. It causes fever and nodules on the skin and can lead to the death of the cattle. Meanwhile, an isolation centre has also opened in Udaipur where the cattle suffering from the disease are kept.
In an unusual incident on Monday, Pushkar BJP MLA Suresh Rawat reached the Rajasthan Assembly along with a cow. The act was carried out with the aim of protesting against the spread of Lumpy disease in livestock. As soon as the BJP MLA reached the spot and started speaking, the cow ran away.
The disease had been ravaging cattle across the country.
