A song uploaded by a Pakistani YouTuber against the schooling of girls has gone viral and has, quite obviously, stirred up outrage in social media circles. Hafiz Hasan Iqbal Chishti posted the video a few weeks ago in which he can be heard imploring people to remove their daughters from schools, as they dance in these schools – an act that according to him is ‘haraam’ in Islam. It goes ahead to say, “Apni Dhi Schoolo Hata Le Othy Dance Kardi Payi Ae” – remove your daughter from school, for she was found dancing there. Other misogynist lyrics take the Unani doctor to say that girls in school often end up as prostitutes. Chishti has further claimed that girls lose their respect and sanctity by attending school.

The video features scenes from a school dance competition organized by Unesco, which Chishti used as the setting for his song released in June.

The controversial video raked up almost 300,000 views and more than 3,000 likes. Scores of users slammed the lyrics in the comments section. I feel really, really bad that Pakistan is still suffering from this type of mentality .shame on you and your thinking .and people who are supporting him in comments think about country and your daughters.” Another commented, “How dare he used such low level language against our sisters .he must be sacked. Moreover he is using haq haq as background music and uttering obscene words. He must be punished.”

One user was flabbergasted: “I am really shocked to see this Nonsense man, education is fundamental right for everyone, no matter if it’s for boy or girl and this is not necessary every girl taking education is doing bad things. Shame on the mentality of these 75% people in Pakistan who are full of this extremist mentality that is why we are not progressing like other countries in the world. Mother is first school of every child and she should be educated to raise a good citizen.” A fourth user chimed, “I am shocked that how this lyrics are made to attack women. Shame on the people who are supporting it. Why don’t you talk about men who also attend school. THIS IS NOT ISLAM. SHAME ON THEM.”

Another YouTuber skewered the video using the Ex-Muslim Zafar Heretic channel: “Let me tell the song creator that music too is Haram in Islam.”
