Authorities in Marblehead, Massachusetts were forced to cancel the annual Fourth of July fireworks show after a barge caught fire overnight on Wednesday. The Marblehead Fire Department responded quickly to the blaze at the harbour’s mouth, joined by state environmental police and the US Coast Guard. America celebrates July 4 as its Independence Day.
According to reports, Marblehead Fireworks and Harbor Illumination announced on social media that the barge in the north coast village of Marblehead had caught fire during the night. A rather dramatic video footage shows a boat passing by the inferno, with dense smoke plumes rising into the sky. No one was killed in the accident and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Americans enthusiastically celebrated their nation’s birthday with parades, cookouts, and vibrant fireworks displays, despite a financial fallout. Travel records are expected to be broken, as airports fill up and highways become congested with travelers heading to their holiday destinations.
