Spain to Launch ‘Porn Passport App’ Soon, How does it work?

Spain is launching a mobile application designed to prevent minors from accessing pornographic material. Called the “porn passport,” this app will enable legal users to view adult content without tracking their usage while blocking children from doing the same.

What is the Porn Passport?

The “porn passport” is part of Spain’s new Digital Wallet app, as reported by Olive Press. Officially named the Digital Wallet Beta (Cartera Digital Beta), this app will allow internet platforms to verify if someone viewing pornography is of legal age.

How Will It Work?

Starting later this summer, users wanting to view porn will need to verify their age through the app. After verification, they’ll receive 30 “porn credits” to access explicit content, valid for one month.

How Do Porn Credits Work?

Each credit issued by the app will generate a QR code, according to News Byte. When a user enters a porn site, a link will appear that, when clicked, connects with the Digital Wallet. The wallet will then confirm the user’s age without revealing any other personal details. One token allows a user to enter the same website 10 times.

How Will Age Be Verified?

A government-issued ID will be used to verify a user’s age.

Is There a Limit on Tokens?

Users can renew their tokens or porn credits multiple times within a month. However, frequent use will prompt alerts to renew the digital passport and increase the risk of being traced.

Despite criticisms for its complexity, the Spanish government asserts that this system is more privacy-friendly and will not track users’ details.
