PM Modi To Urge Diplomacy In Ukraine Conflict During Talks With Putin

Ahead of Tuesday’s delegation-level talks between India and Russia during first visit of PM Modi to Moscow since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in 2022, sources have informed ANI that India consistently advocates for respecting the UN Charter, including territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Indian representatives are expected to communicate to the Russians that “there is no solution on the battlefield” and that “dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward.” These statements follow remarks by US Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller on Monday, where he encouraged India to ensure that any resolution to the Ukraine conflict adheres to the UN Charter. Miller said, “PM Modi, like Prime Minister Orban, recently met with President Zelenskyy.

We consider this to be a major step and urge India and other countries interacting with Russia to make sure that any settlement to the situation in Ukraine upholds the UN Charter and honours the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

India is a vital partner with whom we have candid conversations about everything, even our worries regarding its connections to Russia.” This comes after an unofficial meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday at Putin’s home in Novo-Ogaryovo, close to Moscow.

The leaders had lengthy talks about the situation in Ukraine and will do so again on Tuesday. Government sources claim that India continues to believe that there is no way to resolve the crisis in Ukraine on the battlefield. The Global South shares this opinion, which calls for cooperation from all sides in order to find a diplomatic and dialogue-based solution.

“At the President of Russia’s Novo-Ogaryovo residence near Moscow, Vladimir Putin & Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi @narendramodi, who is on a two-day official visit to Russia, hold an informal meeting,” the Russian Embassy tweeted on X. Prospects for the historically cordial relations between Russia and India will be discussed, along with current global and regional challenges. #RussiaIndia #DruzhbaDosti.” Putin greeted PM Modi with a hard handshake and a loving embrace.

The president of Russia declared, “I’m glad to see you, my dear friend. We can have casual conversations about the same subjects prior to the official meeting.” Later, as they talked, the two leaders were spotted strolling around the President’s mansion. Tuesday, PM Modi wrote on X, saying he was looking forward to the talks: “Thank you to President Putin for having me at Novo-Ogaryovo tonight.

Anticipating our discussions tomorrow as well, which will undoubtedly contribute significantly to strengthening the ties of friendship between Russia and India.” Today in Moscow, President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will co-chair the 22nd Annual Summit between India and Russia.

PM Modi will visit the Rosatom Pavilion at the Moscow exhibition site and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Kremlin. The two leaders will hold restricted-level discussions after these engagements, which will be followed by delegation-level discussions. On Monday, PM Modi was greeted ceremoniously at the Vnukovo-II airport by Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.
