Pakistan Claims Economic Affairs Ministry’s X Account Was Hacked

Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs announced on Friday that its official account on X (formerly known as Twitter) had been hacked. This came after a post from the account surfaced, appealing for international financial aid following rising tensions with India.

In a statement to Reuters, the ministry clarified, “We are working to have the Twitter (X) switched off,” and added that they did not post the message in question.

The controversial message, which sparked attention online, stated, “Govt of Pakistan appeals to International Partners for more loans after heavy losses inflected by enemy. Amid escalating war and stocks crash, we urge international partners to help de-escalate. Nation urged to remain steadfast.”

Pakistan’s Financial Struggles Remain Severe

Despite claims of a hack, Pakistan’s economic troubles are undeniable. The country owes approximately USD 8.8 billion to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), making it the IMF’s fourth-largest debtor. On Monday, credit rating agency Moody’s warned that any prolonged conflict with India could damage Pakistan’s economic growth, weaken its efforts at fiscal stability, and threaten overall macroeconomic conditions.

India’s Military Strikes

India’s military recently launched a powerful counteroffensive, named Operation Sindoor, in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Early Wednesday morning, Indian forces used drones and missiles to target nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Following the operation, Pakistan declared it would give a “befitting reply” to India’s actions.

Rajnath Singh Emphasizes India’s Resolve

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke firmly about India’s commitment to defending its sovereignty. He said that India would not allow any limitations to stand in the way of ensuring national security.

He stated, “We are fully prepared for such responsible responses in the future as well.”
He further added, “However, if anyone tries to take advantage of this restraint, they will face quality action.”

Singh stressed that India has always acted responsibly and prefers to settle conflicts through peaceful dialogue, but it will not hesitate to respond if provoked.

Pakistan’s Counterattacks Foiled

On the night of May 7–8, Pakistan attempted a large-scale drone and missile attack on several Indian military bases across Northern and Western India. Indian forces successfully intercepted and neutralized all the threats. Additionally, India destroyed an air defence system located in Lahore as part of the response.
