Kremlin Denies Involvement In French Railway Attacks Amid Western Media Speculation

The Kremlin dismissed Western media claims on Monday suggesting Russia’s involvement in recent attacks on France’s railway system. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov condemned these accusations as baseless, asserting that Western media often seeks to blame Moscow without evidence.

French Railway Disruptions

The attacks on France’s train network occurred early Friday, causing significant disruptions and revealing security vulnerabilities just hours before the Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony. The sabotage targeted signal stations and cables on the high-speed rail network, leading to travel chaos across the country.

French Authorities’ Response

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin stated on Saturday that foreign involvement could not be ruled out. However, he later suggested that far-left activists might be responsible for the attacks, rather than Russia. The ongoing investigation aims to identify the culprits and address the security gaps exposed by the sabotage.

Media Criticism

Peskov criticized the media’s tendency to unjustly accuse Russia of various incidents. He described such reports as “low-grade” and lacking credible evidence.
