Hurricane Beryl Leaves 12 Dead: Houston Among The Hardest Hit

Hurricane Beryl has tragically claimed at least three lives as it tore through the Houston area, leaving a trail of destruction. Among the fatalities were two individuals struck by falling trees and a woman who perished in a house fire.

Prior to its impact on Texas, Hurricane Beryl had already caused significant devastation in the Caribbean, as reported by CNN. The Category 4 storm resulted in at least nine deaths, with more likely once communications are restored and the full extent of the damage becomes clear. Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness informed reporters that about 500 Jamaicans were in shelters and urged residents of high-risk areas to relocate.

In the Atascocita neighborhood, a man was killed by a falling tree. Constable Mark Herman of Harris County Precinct 4 reported that the incident occurred in the 20900 block of Heather Grove Court. Emergency personnel responded to a 911 call about a tree falling through a home’s roof, trapping an unconscious man. Authorities later confirmed the man’s death at the scene.

Another fatality occurred in the Ponderosa Forest area, in the 17400 block of Rustic Canyon Trail. A 911 caller reported that a tree had fallen through her grandmother’s house. When rescue services arrived, they found that the 74-year-old woman had died.

Early morning on Monday, a woman in southeast Houston died in a house fire. The blaze broke out around 5:30 a.m. on Bendell Drive near Bliss Street. Investigation team is on it to  Investigate the cause of the fire.
