Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has stirred controversy by claiming he was deceived into approving puberty blockers for his transgender child. In a recent interview with Jordan Peterson, Musk described the situation as a “trick” and criticized what he calls the “woke mind virus” for influencing his child’s transition.
Musk’s child, Xavier, now known as Vivian Jenna Wilson, changed both name and gender in 2022. Musk contends that he was misled about the necessity of puberty blockers, asserting he was told it was a matter of preventing suicide risk.
“I lost my son, essentially. They call it deadnaming for a reason,” Musk said. “The reason it’s called deadnaming is because your son is dead. My son Xavier is dead, killed by the woke mind virus.” He further remarked, “I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that.”
Musk’s remarks have ignited a fierce debate about parental rights, transgender healthcare, and the impact of cultural and political ideologies on personal choices. Critics argue that Musk’s comments may harm and stigmatize transgender individuals, while supporters believe he is addressing valid concerns about the medical treatment of minors.
This controversy comes amid broader cultural disputes over gender identity and parental rights. Musk’s decision to move SpaceX’s headquarters from California to Texas is seen as a response to new California legislation limiting parental notification about a child’s gender identity changes.
Musk explained his move on social media: “This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.”
