Bangladesh: 314 Students Enter India Due To Protests, BSF Reports

On Sunday, a significant number of students from India and Nepal were evacuated from Bangladesh due to ongoing unrest over a recent Supreme Court ruling that reduced reservation quotas in government jobs. A total of 314 students crossed into India through the Srimantapur and Akhaura Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) in Tripura, bringing the total number of evacuees to 693.

According to a senior official from the Border Security Force (BSF), 152 students entered India through the Akhaura ICP, while 162 crossed via the Srimantapur ICP. The BSF Tripura Frontiers Inspector General, Piyush Purushottam Das, noted that the current unrest in Bangladesh, triggered by protests against the reservation quota reduction, is posing significant security challenges. Tripura, being a border state surrounded by Bangladesh, is particularly affected by these developments.

The situation in Bangladesh has led to heightened security concerns and has implications for the BSF’s operations in the region. The ongoing protests have intensified, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction with the changes in government job reservation policies.
