A victim was shot dead when unidentified armed men opened fire on him in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial capital. This was the second attack against the Sikh community in two days. Manmohan Singh was assassinated by unidentified assailants in the Kakshal neighborhood on Saturday.
“Manmohan Singh, 34, was on his way home in an auto-rickshaw on Saturday evening when unidentified armed men opened fire on him near Guldara, Kakshal,” a spokesman for the capital city police said on Saturday night.
He was rushed to the hospital, but he died as a result of his injuries. According to the official, senior police officers and investigation teams have raced to the scene to gather CCTV footage and other evidence. A search operation was also conducted in the area to apprehend the perpetrators.
Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan stated that he has directed the capital city police to apprehend the perpetrators as soon as possible.
Another Sikh was shot and injured in the Dabgari neighbourhood of the province capital the day before. Locals were concerned after the second incident in two days.
Tarlug Singh, the son of Makhan Singh, was shot in the leg by unidentified armed persons in Dabgari.
He was brought to the hospital, where his condition was stabilised. A Sikh was shot dead at his shop in Dir Colony a few months ago. Last year, there were also reports of Sikh attacks near Kohat Adda and Sarband.
This is Pakistan’s third attack on a member of the Sikh minority this year. Assailants killed down Sardar Singh in a drive-by shooting in the eastern city of Lahore last month. Singh, 63, was killed by a gunshot to the head. According to Pakistan Today, police official Asad Abbas stated that the bodyguard was injured in the attack.
Gunmen shot and killed Dayal Singh in Peshawar in April. Gunmen assassinated two members of the Sikh community in the same city in May 2022.
