The Balochistan government declared a health emergency in the Aranji region of Khuzdar district’s tehsil Wadh following an epidemic of acute diarrhoea, according to a report by Dawn.

The government has dispatched physicians and paramedics to the region to treat the affected persons. The services of a doctor who refused to conduct emergency duty in the affected area were terminated by the provincial secretary of health. Two woman and a kid died of acute diarrhoea on Saturday in the rural Khuzdar district.

DG Health Noor Mohammad Qazi said a full cholera diagnostic was still pending, adding that the place was quite rural and that getting there was difficult owing to rains and floods, according to Dawn.

He went on to say that a health emergency had been proclaimed in the area, and that a control center had been formed at the DG Health office in Quetta. Qazi went on to say that Khuzdar was keeping an eye on the medical work.

According to an official announcement, the health department fired an ad hoc doctor after he allegedly declined emergency duty in Khuzdar’s Aranji district.

The notification also stated that departmental action had been begun against three other doctors for their unwillingness to travel to the impacted area. Meanwhile, Karachi’s Malir district has come under scrutiny following an epidemic of gastroenteritis.

The village, which is part of the Gadap town union council Darsano Channo, recently experienced a gastroenteritis outbreak that affected hundreds of residents. According to Dawn, officials blamed the sickness outbreak on contaminated water used by households, although they have yet to identify the causative agent(s).

A recent visit to the Memon Goth Government Hospital, the area’s largest public-sector tertiary-care facility, revealed that while the number of patients has decreased significantly for the time being, 15 to 20 patients are still reporting complaints of stomach/abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, and vomiting at the emergency department.

The health problem in the area, according to information obtained from various sources, began around June 23-24, but became serious three days later on June 27 when fatalities occurred one after the other, according to Dawn.
