Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, sisters of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, were transferred from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail to District Jail Jhelum on Saturday after an anti-terrorism court denied the police request to extend their physical remand, according to Dawn. The court ordered their transfer to jail on judicial remand.
Police sources revealed that strict security measures have been implemented at Jhelum jail, where approximately 500 prisoners are being relocated in small groups to maintain order. Attempts to reach Jail Superintendent Syed Hassan Mujtaba Shah for comments were unsuccessful, as reported by Dawn.
Earlier, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi had rejected the police’s request for an extension of the sisters’ physical remand and issued notices regarding their bail applications.

Aleema and Uzma appeared in court under heavy security, where legal representatives from both sides presented their arguments. Defense counsel Niazullah Khan Niazi contended that there was no justification for extending the remand, Dawn reported. Prosecutor Raja Naveed had argued for more time, claiming the police needed to recover “critical evidence,” such as mobile phones and other materials.
Another defense lawyer, Usman Riaz Gill, raised concerns about procedural violations, arguing that proper legal protocols were not followed when remanding women. He also requested the court to review footage from the protest to show alleged misconduct by the police, as Dawn reported.
Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra denied the request, stating, “the USB should be examined by the police investigators instead.” The judge also expressed dissatisfaction with the prosecution’s explanations, stating that the police should have “documented every development” in the case.
The court has issued notices regarding the bail applications of the suspects, with the next hearing set for October 19, Dawn reported.
