OVER 75% OF ADULT POPULATION FULLY VACCINATED

PM lauded nation for fighting the third wave with success; trust in indigenous vaccines a great strength, he added.

India has achieved the remarkable feat of getting 75% of its eligible population fully vaccinated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the people on the successful vaccination drive, calling it a “momentous feat”. The information about the vaccination drive was given by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya. Tagging a post tweeted by Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, PM Modi tweeted, “75% of all adults are fully vaccinated. Congratulations to our fellow citizens for this momentous feat. Proud of all those who are making our vaccination drive a success.”

“With the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Prayas’, India has vaccinated 75% of its adult population with both doses of the vaccine. We are getting stronger in the fight against Corona. We have to follow all the rules and administer the vaccine as soon as possible,” Health Minister Mandaviya had tweeted.

According to the data given by the Union Health Ministry, India has administered over 165.70 crore of vaccine doses so far. The first dose of the Covid vaccine has been given to 93.87 crore people, while the second dose of vaccination has been given to 70.57 crore people. As part of the vaccination drive, several states and union territories have received the vaccines for free. Further, more than 12.43 crore balance and unutilized vaccine doses are still available with states and UTs.

On 16 January 2021, India started a nationwide Covid-19 vaccination program. Vaccination for 15 to 18 years old began on 3 January 2022,

On 16 January 2021, India started a nationwide Covid-19 vaccination program. Vaccination for 15 to 18 years old began on 3 January 2022,

while booster doses for healthcare, frontline workers and the elderly, began on 10 January 2022. On a daily basis, around 5 to 6 lakh people are receiving booster doses. There are more than 10 crore elderly people in India who are more than 60 years of age, however, not all are eligible for booster doses at the moment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “India is fighting with great success with the new wave of Covid-19. Now the cases of corona infection have also started decreasing—this is a very positive sign. People should be safe, the pace of economic activities of the country should be maintained—this is the wish of every countryman.”

Highlighting the achievements of the country in the ongoing vaccination drive, PM Modi said that so far about four and a half crore children in the age group of 15-18 have been administered the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, which is about 60% of youth in the age group of 15 to 18 years within three to four weeks.

The Prime Minister said that the vaccination will “not only protect our youth but will also help them to continue with their studies.” “Another good thing is that within 20 days, one crore people have taken the precaution dose as well. This trust of our countrymen in the indigenous vaccine is our great strength,” he added.

DELHI

The national capital reported 3,674 new Covid-19 cases and 30 deaths in the last 24 hours, Delhi government’s health department said on Sunday. The positivity rate stands at 6.37%. There is a decline in daily cases as compared to yesterday as Delhi registered 4,044 new infections on Saturday. According to the health bulletin of the Delhi government, the active caseload in the city reached 21,490. Out of these, 16,165 patients are in home isolation, 1,508 are admitted to hospitals while the rest are admitted in dedicated Covid centres. As per the bulletin, 1,567 patients are in hospitals across Delhi. Out of this, 59 patients are suspected to have Covid-19 while 1,508 are confirmed cases of the disease. Of these 1,508 patients, 1,203 are from Delhi while 305 are from outside.

MUMBAI

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar has finally recovered from Covid-19 and pneumonia, said Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Sunday. She had been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital on 8 January after she was diagnosed with Covid-19 and pneumonia.

Rajesh Tope said, “I spoke with Dr Pratit Samdani who is treating singer Lata Mangeshkar. She’s recovering, was on a ventilator for some days, but is better now. She is no more on ventilator. Only oxygen is being given to her. She is responding to the treatment.”

Meanwhile, 1,160 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Mumbai during the last 24 hours, said a health bulletin by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai on Sunday. In Mumbai, 160 patients were hospitalised during the last 24 hours. Currently, with 37,573 beds out of a total of 2,268 being occupied by the patients, the bed occupancy rate is 6.0%. According to the state health department, Mumbai currently has 10,797 active cases of Covid-19. Ten people lost their lives to the deadly virus during the last 24 hours.

WEST BENGAL

In view of the surge in cases, the West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party will move the State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday requesting it to postpone the civic polls for remaining municipalities (in the second phase) by a month. “West Bengal BJP to meet State Election Commission tomorrow demanding that the elections for remaining municipalities (scheduled to be held on February 27) should be postponed by four weeks in wake of Covid situation,” said BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya.
