Mumbai: In an unprecedented mass transfer likely to happen of Mumbai cops to other districts, Mumbai police department has given a list of 727 police officers, who have completed eight years working in Mumbai, to the office of the Director-General of Police (DGP). The Maharashtra DGP Sanjay Pandey has issued an order for transferring all inspector cadre officers, who have served for over eight years in Mumbai, outside the city.
According to the Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP) Rajkumar Vhatkar’s order, a proforma has also been prepared for the same. The list comprises senior police inspectors, police inspectors, assistant inspectors, and sub-inspectors who have spent more than eight years in the city. These officers have been given a choice that they can choose three districts of their choice, including their home district, in which they want their transfer. The list will be sent to the Police Establishment Board (PEB) which comprises DGP, CP Mumbai, DG Anti-Corruption Bureau, ADG Law and Order, and ADG Establishment. The board will decide who should be retained and who needs to be transferred. The transfers may not happen at one go considering that obtaining replacements will not be easy. If any officer is transferred, they will be communicated about the same.
A few years ago an order was passed by the government but that was never implemented completely and this time around for general transfers execution on the same is taking place.
This order states that a particular officer should not be posted in the same unit for over eight years, the Maharashtra DGP Pandey has asked police units across the state to draw up lists of such officers. The normal tenure of police officers at a particular post is three years but according to the Maharashtra Police Act, police officers who have served eight years in Mumbai Commissionerate will have to go out of the city.
“Police officers, who have completed eight years of their tenure, are under consideration and their willingness has been called. If they are being considered for transfers then accordingly the posting will be given. This order is part of the Maharashtra Police Act. This is an every year exercise where they call for information, since 2015 it’s been done every year where the DGP office calls for information of such officers who have completed eight years. Like any other city, the list from Mumbai has also been forwarded. Every year such a huge list comes and based on availability their transfers happen.” ADGP Vhatkar told The Daily Guardian.
