OVER 2 LAKH WOMEN TO ATTEND PM’S ‘EMPOWERMENT RALLY’

The PM will transfer Rs 1,000 crore to the bank accounts of self help groups, benefiting around 16 lakh women

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Prayagraj on 21 December to empower women with “one-of-a-kind” necessary skills, incentives and resources. The programme will be attended by over 2 lakh women. The Prime Minister Office said, “In this endeavour to support women, the PM will transfer an amount of Rs 1,000 crore in the bank accounts of Self Help Groups, benefitting around 16 lakh women.”

Further, it added, “This transfer is being done under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM), with 80,000 SHGs receiving Community Investment Fund (CIF) of Rs. 1.10 lakh per SHG and 60,000 SHGs receiving Revolving Fund of Rs 15000 per SHG.”

Under this programme, the Prime Minister will also encourage Business Correspondent-Sakhis or BC-Sakhis and help them start earning through commission on transactions. He will send Rs 4,000 as the month’s first stipend to the accounts of 20,000 BC-Sakhis. Also, when they commence their work as providing doorstep financial services, they will be paid a stipend of Rs 4,000 for six months.

The PMO also said that the PM would be transferring a total amount of over Rs 20 crore to more than 1 lakh beneficiaries, under the Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangala Scheme. The programme offers a girl child with conditional cash transfers at various periods of her life; each beneficiary will receive Rs 15,000 in total.

The PM will also lay the foundation stone of 202 additional nutrition manufacturing units. The self-help groups are funding these units, built at a cost of approximately Rs 1 crore per unit. Under the Integrated Child Development Scheme, these units will supply Supplementary Nutrition in 600 blocks.

As per the designed schedule, the PM will reach Bamrauli airport at 12:45 pm, and later, he would leave for the parade ground at 1.05 pm. At 1.10 pm, he would reach the venue of his public meeting, and he would see an exhibition. At 1.15 pm, he would be on stage, welcomed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other leaders. From 1.20 pm to 1.24 pm, a short film will be screened. After the short film, the PM will transfer Rs 1,000 crore into the accounts of one lakh self-help groups (SHGs). As per the tentative minute-to-minute details, the PM will stay in Prayagraj for two hours and three minutes.

The district administration has stepped up preparations for his visit and CM Yogi Adityanath has instructed the district administration to ensure a successful visit. As per some sources, around 67 schools have been chosen to accommodate SHG members and other beneficiaries, while 32 schools have been chosen for police and security officers to stay. Women security personnel would also be deployed.
