Young man stabbed to death in fight

26-year-old youth, identified as Sunil from EWS Colony, Dhanas, who sustained injuries in a knife attack in Sadar Bazaar of Sector 19 police station area late on Wednesday evening, has succumbed to his injuries. Sunil had bravely intervened to save another young man named Rahul, resulting in him being stabbed in the thigh. This incident marks the second murder in Chandigarh on the third day of the New Year.

The family of the deceased, along with some shopkeepers from Sector 19 Sadar Bazaar, gathered outside the mortuary of Sector 16 Government Hospital on Thursday morning. Sunil is survived by his one-month-old son, wife, brother, and parents. The attack, carried out by four assailants, led to Sunil’s death due to excessive bleeding. In protest against this violent incident, shopkeepers kept Sadar Bazaar closed on Thursday morning. It is noteworthy that Sector 19 police station is located right in front of the market, and the police are actively searching for the attackers.

Sunil had been a part of the market for the past 12 years and was known for his calm nature. His father works as a fruit seller in Sector 26 Mandi, and he has an elder brother. Sunil was employed in the clothing shop owned by a shopkeeper named Ashwini Goyal. Additionally, there is information indicating the existence of CCTV footage capturing the incident. The police are likely to utilise this footage in their ongoing investigation.
