Young boxer’s body discovered on tracks in Faridabad

The disfigured remains of a state-level boxer were discovered on the city’s railway tracks Saturday morning. Krishna Kumar (17), a bronze medalist at the National School Games in Maharashtra, departed from home on Friday evening, assuring his family he would return shortly. They believed he was heading to the training academy. “On Friday evening, he was watching videos on his phone.

Around 7.30pm, he asked me to make fritters for him, but I offered to cook vegetables instead since he was on a diet. He left home after sometime and told us he would be back in an hour. We waited till 9.30pm, and called him on his cellphone after that. It kept ringing, but he did not answer the calls. After a while, calls to his phone met with the response that it was not reachable. We searched through the night, but could not trace him,” his mother Manju Narvat said. The next morning, villagers in Khedi Kalan spotted his body by the tracks and informed GRP. The local cops were called too.

Krishna’s cousin Omveer said he was depressed ever since the results of a local boxing tournament was announced recently. Although Krishna thought he had won the game, the organisers declared him a runner-up.

Police said they had initiated an investigation because the family suspected foul play. “He was not the kind of boy who would commit suicide. He was preparing for the Army and wanted to serve the nation,” Omveer said.

Police, however, believe it’s a case of suicide or accident. “Looking at the condition of the body, it appears he may have come in front of a moving train. We have started an investigation into the case. His family, however, has not filed any complaint about their suspicion of murder,” said Bhagwan, the BPTP police station in-charge.

Krishna was in Class 12 and preparing for the Army. Between December 23 and 30 last year, he had participated at the 67th National School Games in Maharashtra’s Akola, where he won the bronze in the under-19 and 52-56kg category.
He also competed for another championship, the results of which were declared only after a month. “He was certain he had won the final match.

But when the results were announced, he did not win. He was shocked and depressed at this,” Omveer said.
Krishna lost his father five years ago and was living with his mother and an elder brother.
