After weeks of delay, the formal transition of power to US President-elect Joe Biden has begun on Tuesday with his transition team contacting federal agencies to prepare for a handover of power in January from President Donald Trump.
This happened after President Donald Trump on Monday agreed to work with Biden on the transition to his presidency. He tweeted on Monday evening that he was agreeing to cooperate with Biden in the “best interest of our country” for him to become the 46th President of a country facing a profound crisis brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic touching every aspect of life.
After this, the Biden team moved swiftly to contact federal agencies to prepare for a handover of power in January
“The election is over. It’s time to put aside the partisanship and the rhetoric designed to demonise one another. We have to come together,” Biden said on Twitter on Tuesday.
As per Reuters, one of the first departments the Biden team reached out to was the Pentagon, underscoring the importance of emphasising national security during the transition.
