With govt’s help, 1,234 Haryana students return safely from Ukraine

The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate the troubles of all countries and it has also affected India as nearly 20000 students were stranded in the war-torn region. Among these, a lot of students who hail from Haryana were pursuing medical education there. It came to the surface that out of around 1800 Haryana’s students stuck in Ukraine, 1234 have returned till Saturday. Some are on the border, they are being brought and some have reached Delhi and Mumbai.

Around 80 students belonging to the state are still stuck in the cities of Ukraine. The Government is in touch with them and is figuring out their safe and hassle-free evacuation. Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal, during his stay in Gurugram, on Sunday interacted with the students who returned from Ukraine and their parents. Manohar Lal said that he would convey the suggestions received from them (students) to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure maximum help is extended to these students.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, the first priority of the Indian government was to ensure the safe return of the stranded students from the war-torn country, and the arrangements for which were made by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. Four of India’s senior Ministers have gone to neighbouring countries of Ukraine. From Ukraine, special flights are being run. Most of the people have returned, however, some students are still stuck in several cities of Ukraine. Even on Sunday, special flights took off for those who have already reached the bordering regions of Ukraine.

Further, the Chief Minister said, that when all the students return from Ukraine, their future will be a matter of concern for the Government of India and the Indian Medical Council and we will abide by their decisions. On Sunday, talks were held with the evacuated students and their families. We will convey the good suggestions given by these students to the Prime Minister so that maximum help can be given, the CM added.

It also came to light that the degree will be given by those medical colleges in which these students are studying. Also, about the degrees of those students who were on the verge of completion of their course, the minister said that it will be discussed only after the situation normalises in Ukraine.

The students who have completed their courses have been given assurance that they will be given internship opportunities. After that, they have to pass the FMGA exam as per the rules. The students openly gave their suggestions to the Chief Minister and explained that they crossed conflict-ridden Ukraine’s border wearing the tricolor flag of India.

A vehicle carrying the national flag of India is being allowed to cross the border there. For this, these students also appreciated the cooperation given by the government. When these students were asked whether they would like to return to study in Ukraine once the situation normalises, most of them answered in affirmative.
