WITH AN ESTIMATED BUDGET OF RS 44 CRORE, HARYANA POLICE FLEET DEMANDS 1,443 VEHICLES

Maintaining law and order in any state is the responsibility of the police department. Besides, a string of other factors and resources play a crucial role regarding the same. Amid this, it came to the surface that the police department of Haryana continues to face the shortage of vehicles in its fleet which emerges as a huge obstacle in maintaining law and order along with tightening the noose around the necks of the criminals. Keeping in view the ongoing scenario, the department had written to the state government regarding the demand for new vehicles stating that the purchase of the new vehicles is the need of the hour as a lot of vehicles are getting condemned every year. In its demand, the department has mentioned an estimated budget of Rs 44 crore for the purchase of 1443 new vehicles including two-wheelers and four-wheelers. One of the senior officials of the concerned wing said that a huge proportion of the fleet has completed its life span requiring the department to replace condemned vehicles.

It is pertinent to mention that two-wheelers constitute the maximum proportion of the fleet. Further, out of the total vehicles demanded, bikes are 1210, the highest number. In continuation to above, it is worth mentioning the districts of Haryana adjoining Delhi and falling in Nation Capital Region (NCR) require more vehicles in comparison to others as the crime rate is much higher. The list includes Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, and Rohtak, etc. The police department was given 630 brand new Innova cars recently that are being used under Dial 112 project which came into existence recently. But in wake of the increasing crime rate, more vehicles are required so that the officials and police personnel can reach the crime spot or required place timely. Before this, the department was provided 226 lightweight vehicles in March 2020 which are being used in several districts depending on the need.
