When Rekha ‘starved herself’ to lose weight

The diva of Bollywood, Rekha dishes out major fitness and fashion goals at the age of 68.
According to the reports, there was a time when the actress was body shamed and taunted for her skin colour. During one of her earlier interactions on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, Rekha disclosed that she used to starve herself to lose weight. She said, “I used to have just Elaichi milk for months together. Sometimes, I used to go on a popcorn diet. So basically, I used to starve.”

Further, she added, “It took me two and a half years to really lose binging on junk food and chocolate. And then slowly, by the time Ghar was released, that’s when it hit people that it’s overnight. But it’s not overnight, it took about two-and-a-half years.”

The diva in a different interview revealed she was considered both ugly and unattractive. She told Firstpost, “I was called the ‘Ugly Duckling’ of Hindi films because of my dark complexion and South Indian features. I used to feel deeply hurt when people compared me with the leading heroines of the time and said I was no match for them. I was determined to make it big on sheer merit.”

Meanwhile, the actress started her acting career at a very young age with the 1958 Telugu film Inti Guttu as a child artist. She made her debut as a lead actress in the film industry with the 1970 film Sawan Bhadon opposite Navin Nischol.
