WhatsApp is testing a new feature that simplifies the process of resharing status updates on profiles with a dedicated button. Spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta version 2.24.16.4 for Android by WABetaInfo, this feature will be beneficial for users who frequently reshare status updates. A similar functionality has been available on Meta’s Instagram for years.
Currently under development, the new feature includes a quick shortcut button to reshare status updates, allowing users to either reshare them as they are or customize them further with emojis or by resizing the post. It is unclear if WhatsApp will notify users when their status is reshared.
At present, resharing a WhatsApp status update requires taking a screenshot and re-uploading it, which is not feasible for videos or GIF-format images. The upcoming feature will eliminate this inconvenience by providing a direct option to share a contact’s status update.
Additionally, WhatsApp is testing several new features for both Android and iOS users, including an option for iPhone users to choose between the smaller Meta AI model (70B) and the larger model (405B).
In a recent update, WhatsApp introduced new generative AI experiences powered by the latest large language model, Llama 3.1. These features enable users to edit images by removing subjects or replacing backgrounds and generate personal avatars. The update also improves image generation speed and provides previews while an image is being generated.
