US Presidential Debate: Biden Blames Jet Lag From Overseas Trips For His Debate Struggles

Recent scrutiny over US President Joe Biden’s performance in a June 27 debate with Former US President Donald Trump has led to calls for reflection. Biden admitted his debate wasn’t his best, blaming jet lag from recent overseas trips. At a campaign event in McLean, Virginia, he mentioned traveling across many times zones before the debate, which he felt impacted his alertness on stage.

Biden traveled to France and Italy for summits within two weeks. Critics and some in his party question his ability to continue his re-election bid after a disappointing debate. Despite calls for him to withdraw, Biden is determined to stay in the race and defeat Donald Trump.

Initially, the White House said Biden’s unsure debate performance was due to cold, but he didn’t mention being sick later. A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Biden and Trump have equal support from voters, each with 40%. This shows Biden is competitive against Trump despite challenges within his party as the election nears on November 5.

The Democratic Party is uncertain about Biden’s chances for re-election due to concerns about his debate performance and health. Despite criticism and internal challenges, Biden is determined to keep running and face strong opponents. As Election Day is scheduled for 5 November, both parties will likely face increased scrutiny and strategic planning for a closely fought election.
