US issues worldwide alert for citizens traveling abroad after Al-Zawahiri’s death

The US State Department has issued a worldwide alert to its citizens after the death of Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri. The US has said to maintain a “high level of vigilance” while traveling abroad.

“As terrorist attacks, political violence (including demonstrations), criminal activities, and other security incidents often take place without any warning, U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance and practice good situational awareness when traveling abroad,” the state department alert said.

“U.S. citizens abroad are urged to monitor the local news and maintain contact with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate,” it added.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden on Tuesday announced the death of the most wanted terrorist Ayman al-Zawahiri. While addressing the media Biden said, “Justice has been delivered”.

“On 31 July 2022, the United States conducted a precision counter-terrorism strike in Afghanistan that killed Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden’s deputy and successor as leader of al-Qaida,” the US Department said.

Meanwhile, Ayman al-Zawahiri was one of the world’s most wanted terrorists and a mastermind of the 11 September 2001 attacks.
