UP cops launch special service for their own men

Uttar Pradesh Police’s 112 helpline has started a special service for rendering assistance to the family members of their own men in khaki who are posted away from their families. This service started after senior police officers, while interacting with their junior colleagues, found that the police personnel, who were under already under a lot of stress due to the increased work hours in the time of Covid-19, were worried about their family members, as they were not at home to take care of them.

“To deal with this, we decided to form ‘Police Corona Sahayata Ekai’. We have a large and capable police family. We may be away from our family but in every jurisdiction there are personnel who can help their colleagues’ families,” Asim Arun, Additional Director General of Police and head of 112 helpline service, told The Daily Guardian.

The policemen have been asked to call 112 or 0522- 2217711 to seek assistance for their relatives and other close family members. The police personnel can take assistance in case of any medical need, medicine or any other emergency. The service, which was launched on 11 May, has already benefited 69 police personnel till now. Sharing an example, an official recalled an incident about Mohammad Aakib, who is attached with a Police Response Vehicle in Lucknow and his family lives in Prayagraj.

One day, Aakib was informed that his five-year-old daughter had fainted. A worried Aakib reached out to his colleague in Prayagraj, who then contacted this newly launched service. Following this, a police team immediately reached the spot and took Aakib’s daughter to a private hospital for treatment.

Similarly, “Police Corona Sahayata Ekai” got a call from police personnel Chandra Bhushan Singh, who is attached with Chetganj thana, Varanasi. He sought assistance for his 11-year-old son who was having severe ear pain. A police team reached the place in Deoria and took the child to a private hospital for treatment and dropped him back to his home after he was treated.
