Universities of Haryana stand nowhere in Times Higher Education world ranking

Despite the tall claims of universities of Haryana, the scenario remains unchanged continuously in terms of higher education at the world level as out of 22 universities, just one namely Guru Jambheshwar University for Science and Technology (GJUST) could secure its position in Times Higher Education World Education ranking 2022 which indicates the declining and poor education system. As many as 21 states and one central university are in Haryana and occupying the ranking by just one university indicate a lot in itself. Two prominent reasons are being reported for the ongoing situation, first, a string of educational institutes hesitate to apply in global rankings and secondly, most of the universe fail to fulfil the criteria fixed for the same.

What is more important to state is that the universities of Haryana are lagging far behind in comparison to the universities of neighbouring states including Punjab, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh which requires us to adopt certain strategic steps to raise our educational level and the same is the need of the hour.

So in wake of the declining educational status, the government, as well as the universities’ administration, are required to come up with a foolproof plan so that we can prove ourselves globally with regard to higher education. While reacting to the issue, Prof Ajmer Singh Malik, who holds the portfolio of VC of Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa said that we are putting our best to raise our educational level as a string of new courses including BSC mathematics, physics and data sciences along with BA, in digital media, four-year courses have been launched.

It is worth mentioning that the prominent higher education institutions in the state including, Kurukshetra University, MDU Rohtak, Central University of Haryana etc have failed to meet expectations in recent years which is an alarming situation. Besides, a string of indicators namely research, teaching, international outlook, Students- teachers ratio and industry revenue decide the ranking of any university and most of our educational institutions failed to fulfil these criteria.
