“Union Home Minister’s Jammu & Kashmir Visit Deferred Due to Unfavorable Weather”

Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah’s anticipated visit to Jammu and Kashmir on January 9, 2024, has been deferred due to inclement weather conditions and the forecasted adverse weather ahead.

The proposed itinerary included Shri Amit Shah’s participation in the Vikasit Bharat Sankalpa Yatra in Jammu, where he was slated to inaugurate projects totaling Rs. 1379 Crores. Notably, the introduction of E-buses in Jammu city was a key feature among the initiatives aimed at bolstering sustainable urban transport. Additionally, the Union Minister was set to lay the foundation stone for projects amounting to Rs. 2348 Crores, signifying a substantial commitment to infrastructural development in the region.

Another significant aspect of the deferred visit was the scheduled distribution of appointment letters to individuals appointed on compassionate grounds. This highlighted the government’s empathetic approach towards those facing challenging circumstances.

Shri Amit Shah had planned a comprehensive review of the security and development situation in Jammu and Kashmir during this visit. This underscored the government’s dedication to ensuring the well-being and progress of the region amid evolving challenges.

The Union Minister also intended to travel to Dera Ki Gali in the Poonch sector to meet with the families of civilians who recently lost their lives in tragic incidents. This compassionate gesture aimed at providing solace and conveying the government’s support during difficult times.

However, the decision to defer the program was made in consideration of the prevailing inclement weather conditions and forecasts, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all involved. As of now, a new date for the rescheduled visit has not been announced. The Union Home Minister’s comprehensive agenda for development, security, and community engagement awaits a more favorable weather window for its successful execution.
