TV journalist hacked to death in Tamil Nadu, 4 arrested

Israel Moses, a 26-year-old television journalist, has been hacked to death by a 4-member gang at his doorstep on Sunday due to personal animosity at Somangalam in Kanchipuram district.

Moses’s father Ganaraja has stated in the complaint that his son was actively involved against a land-grabbing issue and he at times helped the police with the information about the illegal activities that are happening in the locality.

On the fateful night, Moses’ father stated in his complaint, a person called Manoj who was known to Moses, arrived at his residence and called the journalist outside in the pretext of asking a contact number from him around 10:30 pm. The moment he stepped out, two more assailants who were hiding outside with sharp weapons attacked Moses in head and arms. Moses collapsed with grievous injuries and was bleeding profusely until he was taken to the Chromepet government hospital at 12:30 am. Doctors who checked Moses confirmed his parents that he had been brought dead to the hospital.

Based on the complaint, the police have arrested four persons.

Condemning the incident, the DMK president has demanded stern actions against the people involved in the crime and has asked the government to do everything to safeguard the interests of the journalists in the state. Several journalist associations have condemned the incident and demanded the government to ensure the security of the journalists in the state.
