tribal man abducted over interfaith affair, murdered in Pune

The police detained seven people in relation to the kidnapping and murder of a tribal man. A tribal man named Deepak Barde (31), who was allegedly abducted last month in Ahmednagar district over his relationship with a young woman from the same village, was killed and his body was dumped into a river, according to police.

Reportedly, the man’s body has not yet been found.

Barde, a member of the Bhil tribe, has not been seen or heard from since August 31. On September 1, his father, Raosaheb Barde, filed a police report.

The FIR claims that Deepak was abducted from the Wagholi neighbourhood of Pune with the intent to kill him because of his friendship with a Muslim teenager who was 19 years old. Her uncle filed a missing persons report after learning that the couple had supposedly fled approximately a month earlier. However, they were eventually located, and the woman was taken home by family members.

The complainant stated that Deepak was allegedly beaten after being dragged against his will to the woman’s father in the village of Bhokar. Since then, Deepak has vanished, according to Raosaheb.

A few days prior to going missing, Deepak allegedly went to the Shrirampur police station with his uncle to file a complaint after receiving threats from the woman’s relatives, according to Raosaheb.

According to clauses of the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Indian Penal Code (articles 342, 364, and 34), an offence was reported in the case against the woman’s relatives, including her father and uncle.
