Transportation disrupted, fares surge amid Chandigarh farmers’ protest

Due to the ongoing farmer protest, the transportation system has been severely disrupted. Police have set up barricades and blocked traffic at various places on the highways, resulting in an increase in commute fares.

In fact, there is no bus service beyond Zirakpur on the Amritsar-Delhi highway, as routes have been diverted from there. Buses from Punjab to Delhi are not operational. Similarly, buses of the Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation have also been diverted from their routes. Traveling from Delhi to Chandigarh is also not easy. According to information, the normal airfare from Chandigarh to Delhi is around Rs. 3,000. However, due to the farmer protest, the fare has increased from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 15,000 on February 12th and 13th. Previously, there were a total of 9 flights from Chandigarh to Delhi. Now, 14 flights are being operated. This means that due to traffic disruptions on the highway and the farmer protest, the number of flights has also increased.
