Tragedy struck near Kaljariya railway crossing in the Jamtara-Karmatand area of Jharkhand, resulting in at least two passengers losing their lives and several others sustaining injuries after being struck by a train, as confirmed by Jamtara Deputy Commissioner Shashi Bhushan Mehra.
Expressing condolences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office released a statement, stating, “Pained by the mishap in Jamtara, Jharkhand. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”
Deputy Commissioner Mehra reported that two bodies have been recovered, and the police, along with district administration and railway officials, are on-site, facilitating the transportation of the injured to medical facilities.
Jamtara Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Anant Kumar provided additional details, indicating that the victims were passengers who had alighted near the Kalajharia railway crossing and were subsequently struck by another local train.
Kumar explained, “Near the Kalajharia railway crossing, the train stopped and some passengers got off and were run over by another local train. Information was received that some people have died. RPF and the district police are conducting a search operation, and two bodies have been recovered so far.”
