“Today’s narcissist government”, Sonia Gandhi scoffs on twitter

A day after a dispute broke out over the BJP’s removal of Nehru from their Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in Karnataka, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi took a jab at the government in her Independence Day message. “Friends, we have accomplished a lot over the past 75 years, but the current narcissist government is busy downplaying the heroic sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and the tremendous accomplishments of the nation, which can never be allowed.”

“Congress will not accept any wrong portrayal of historical facts for political gains, nor will it allow any insult to Gandhi-Nehru-Patel-Azad based on falsehoods,” Sonia Gandhi said.

Sonia Gandhi’s message came as Prime Minister Modi, addressing the nation from the Red Fort rampart on the morning of the country’s 76th Independence Day, declared war on corruption and nepotism. According to PM Modi, political “bhai-batijawad” has infiltrated numerous Indian institutions and has surpassed talent.

The Congress responded angrily to the BJP’s video, accusing Jawahar Lal Nehru of being responsible for the partition of India in 1947, claiming that the BJP was just engaging in partition politics to weaponize one of history’s most horrific episodes. The Congress leader blamed Savarkar, stating, “In actuality, Savarkar created the two-nation thesis, and Jinnah made it flawless.” “I thought that if we did not accept division, India would be split into many fragments and would be entirely destroyed,” wrote Sardar Patel.

Another cause of contention was the Har Ghar Tiranga government advertising, in which Nehru was not identified as a freedom fighter. The absence of Nehru, according to the Congress, demonstrates BS Bommai’s determination to retain his position as chief minister of Karnataka.
