On Thursday, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey claimed that Mahua Moitra, a TMC MP, attempted to fabricate a story regarding the actions of the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, which is looking into claims that she received “gifts-for-question.” After Moitra and other opposition ethics panel members stormed out of the meeting, accusing the committee chairperson of asking the TMC leader personal and unethical questions, Dubey made his statement hours later.
Speaking at a press conference here, Dubey said Moitra would undoubtedly be questioned by the committee regarding the affidavit that businessman Darshan Hiranandani had submitted. Additionally, he claimed that the opposition was offended by the panel’s head being an OBC member. According to Dubey, “They were unable to process the fact.”
The leader of the BJP further asserted that, given the evidence that he and others had presented to the ethics committee against Moitra, “no power” could save her. At Hiranandani’s request, Moitra is alleged to have asked questions that were keyed in through her parliamentary account in exchange for bribes and favors from the well-known business family’s scion living in Dubai.
