Three cyber thugs arrested for running fake call centre

In a significant breakthrough, the Cyber Crime team of Police Station-Cyber Crime, UT, Chandigarh, has apprehended three individuals involved in operating a fraudulent call centre. The accused are alleged to have swindled unsuspecting victims across India by orchestrating elaborate scams through fake websites and bogus job offers.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ashok Kumar alias Gaurav, hailing from Lalpur village, Post Office-Gubhana, district Aligarh; Sushant Gupta, a resident of New Lalpur, Krishna Nagar, near LPS School, East Delhi; and Umesh, originally from Harsh Vihar, North East-Delhi.

According to authorities, the accused collectively defrauded people of lakhs of rupees by employing deceptive tactics such as creating fake websites and sending counterfeit job offer letters to unsuspecting individuals.

During the raid, law enforcement officers seized a significant cache of evidence, including 71 mobile phones, 01 ATM card, and 05 laptops, from the possession of the accused.Inspector Ranjit Singh, SHO Police Station Cyber Crime, Chandigarh, disclosed that the trio operated fake call centres under the guise of offering lucrative online job opportunities to gullible job seekers.

The fraudulent activities extended to the creation of a counterfeit website/domain, purportedly associated with the National Council Vidya Path, Sector-11 A, Chandigarh-16002, to dupe victims with deceptive email addresses.

Upon interrogation, Ashok Kumar alias Gaurav and Sushant Gupta alias Ashwin confessed to orchestrating the operation of fake call centres, exploiting the vulnerability of individuals seeking employment opportunities online.

The arrests come as a significant blow to cybercriminals operating in the region and underscore the diligent efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating online fraud.
