Three apprehended with 4.7 kg of ‘Nepali Charas’ valued at Rs 1.43 crore

The Mumbai police have arrested three individuals in Wadala for their alleged involvement in the illicit sale of ‘Nepali Charas’ within Mumbai. Law enforcement officers successfully seized a substantial 4.7 kg quantity of charas, which carries an estimated value of Rs 1.43 crore in the international market.
The action was initiated by the Bandra unit of the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) following a credible tip-off regarding an individual in Wadala engaged in the sale of charas. An officer involved in the operation provided insights, stating, “The team apprehended him and discovered 1 kg of charas in his possession.”
Subsequently, the police conducted a search at the suspect’s residence, revealing an additional cache of over 3 kg of charas. In light of these findings, the law enforcement authorities proceeded to detain the suspect’s brother and another individual connected to the case.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prakash Jadhav remarked, “Currently, the accused are not cooperating much and not even providing their full names. We will be subjecting them to further interrogation to obtain more comprehensive information about their activities.”
Officials from the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) shed light on the sources of the illicit charas trade, revealing that the contraband primarily enters Mumbai either from Himachal Pradesh or the Indo-Nepal border. This narcotic substance is typically cultivated in the mountainous regions, with the Himalayan stretch spanning from Himachal Pradesh to Nepal serving as a major source. After reaching Nepal, it is smuggled into Uttar Pradesh or Bihar before eventually finding its way into Mumbai.
It has been noted by police sources that the charas from Himachal Pradesh is renowned for its high quality. However, due to intensified law enforcement efforts in Himachal Pradesh and the subsequent escalation in prices, there has been a surge in the supply of ‘Nepali Charas’ in Mumbai over recent years.
