The National Security Agency has been invoked against Amritpal Singh

Punjab government informed the Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday that the National Security Act (NSA) has been invoked against fugitive pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh.
During the hearing, Punjab Advocate General Vinod Ghai informed the high court that a search for the Waris Punjab De leader is underway. “We were armed, but we did not use force. Some issues are so sensitive that they cannot be discussed in court. We’re doing well in our fight against Amritpal.” He has been subjected to NSA, the AG informed the court.
Amritpal’s lawyer informed the court that Amritpal Singh’s father Tarsem Singh was in attendance and wished to address the court. In response, the court stated that because Singh’s father was not the party in the case, he could not be heard and if he wanted to submit anything, he should file application.
The court was adjourned until the next hearing which has been scheduled for four days later.  A new affidavit has been also requested from the government.
On Saturday, Punjab Police launched an investigation into Amritpal Singh and his associates.
According to the police, 114 arrests have been made in the case so far and there is a strong suspicion from ISI angle and foreign funding.
Previously, central agency sources stated that Daljeet Singh Kalsi, alias Sarabjeet Singh Kalsi, an alleged advisor and financier of Amritpal Singh was arrested on Sunday.
Punjab Police also seized the vehicle used by ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh to flee as well as several other vehicles and ammunition.
Meanwhile, a large police force has been deployed outside Amritpal Singh’s home in Amritsar’s Jallupur Khera village. According to the police, security has also been increased throughout the state.
The police also held flag marches throughout the state to maintain law and order and is instilling confidence in the public.
Jalandhar Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal confirmed the radical leader’s status as a “fugitive” late Saturday evening.
The police action came nearly three weeks after. Amritpal supporters clashed with uniformed personnel at the Ajnala police station on the outskirts of Amritsar on 23 February, demanding the release of one of Amritpal’s close aides, Lovepreet Toofan.
Thousands of his supporters stormed in the Ajnala police station, brandishing swords and high-caliber firearms and threatening the officers with dire consequences, if Lovepreet Toofan, who had been arrested for allegedly assaulting and abducting a man was not released.
