Temporary respite from harsh cold, dense fog engulfs Delhi

Delhi gets temporary respite from the cold on Friday morning with the minimum temperature recorded at 12 degrees Celsius and moderate fog conditions.

Meanwhile, the national capital air quality was in the “very poor” category with the overall air quality index (AQI) at 341.

According to the airport authority due to dense fog on Friday, six flights were delayed from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).

The flight routes that were affected were Delhi-San Francisco/Kathmandu, Delhi-Chandigarh-Kullu, Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Dharamshala-Chandigarh, Delhi-Shimla- Dharamshala, Delhi-Dehradun.

Earlier at 6:10 am a minimum temperature of 5.9 degrees Celsius was recorded in Safdarjung and in Palam, the visibility was recorded at 100 meters.

Moreover, over parts of Punjab, Northwest Rajasthan, Jammu division, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Tripura dense to very dense fog was observed.

Taking to Twitter the India Meteorological Department tweeted, “Dense/Very Dense Fog layer (in the white patch) extends from Punjab to Bihar across Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.”

However, IMD has predicted that on 14 January there will be dense to very dense fog in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi; in isolated pockets over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The dense fog will be over the states of the Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Odisha.

“Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions very likely in some parts of north Rajasthan and cold wave conditions in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh,” the IMD said.
