According to Chennai police, six deaths have been reported under the jurisdiction of the Greater Chennai Police thus far as a result of the Michaung cyclone. Rescue workers have been dispatched to evacuate residents from areas affected by flooding in Chennai caused by heavy rains. The Chennai neighborhood of Arumbakkam is still submerged in water due to recent heavy rain. Emergency travel is advised via the maintained Green Corridors from the Airport to Anna Salai and ECR. Waterlogging is at least one foot deep on other roads.
DDRT Teams are working with the Government and Highways Department to clear major water logging areas.
“A total of 225 people were rescued from Ganesapuram, Slaterpuram, and Shanmuga Street in the Santhome area. 15 people were rescued from Anbu Nagar. 6 people, including two senior citizens and two children, were rescued from their flooded home in West Mambalam. 8 people, including a woman, were rescued from Ram Nagar and sent to a shelter. 4 people were rescued from Anna Nagar,” stated the Chennai Police release.
Eight people were taken to a community hall after being rescued from Canal Street, Marina, according to Chennai Police. From Anna Sathya Nagar, 250 people were saved and taken to a relief facility. After the bus became stuck in the rain, 22 people—two of whom were women—were saved and taken to a school. From Bethel Nagar, sixty people were saved, and they were brought to government buildings and schools. Fifty individuals were saved from Mettukuppam. Thirty individuals were saved from Nehru Nagar. In Triplicane, two families were saved from collapsed homes.
