Taapsee Pannu Expresses Views on “Animal”: “I Wouldn’t Do It”

In a recent interview, Taapsee Pannu shared her perspective on the film “Animal,” starring Ranbir Kapoor. The movie, which achieved box office success, faced criticism for its portrayal of toxic masculinity, misogyny, and the use of violence.

Taapsee revealed that she has not watched the film and emphasized her stance on not being an extremist. She mentioned that she agrees to disagree with various opinions. Taapsee discouraged comparisons with Hollywood, stating that the audiences and societal reactions are different in India.

Highlighting the distinction, she said, “You cannot compare our film industries with Hollywood and say, ‘Why are these pseudos talking like this about Animal when they can enjoy Gone Girl as an art?'” Taapsee added that in India, people tend to emulate actors’ styles and lines from movies, and the impact on real-life behavior is more significant.

Regarding her choice of roles, Taapsee expressed her responsibility as a Bollywood actor and emphasized that with power comes responsibility. While acknowledging the freedom of choice for other actors, she stated, “I wouldn’t do it (Animal) is what I am saying.”

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, “Animal” also features Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Triptii Dimri in key roles. The film was released on December 1.
