The Mannat Enclave Phase-2 Colony in Zirakpur faced a distressing incident when a group of stray dogs attacked a four-year-old child, causing severe injuries to the child’s private parts. Initially treated at a private hospital in Zirakpur, the child’s critical condition warranted referral to the Chandigarh Sector-16 Government Hospital. Unfortunately, due to the unavailability of necessary treatment, the child was further directed to PGI. Although receiving initial aid at PGI, the child was discharged, with a scheduled operation set for December 15.The incident, occurring on December 5, sparked widespread protests among the colony’s residents, deeply alarmed by the persisting issue of stray dogs. Community members had previously brought this concern to the attention of Zirakpur Municipal Council officials, including their ward councilor. However, their pleas for action went unheeded, exacerbating the fear and frustration among the residents. The gravity of this incident has underscored the urgent need for effective measures to address the proliferation of stray dogs in the area. Beyond the immediate physical harm caused, this situation has instilled fear and unease within the community, particularly regarding the safety of innocent children.
The community’s agitation reflects a shared concern for the safety and well-being of its members. Urgent steps need to be taken by local authorities to tackle the stray dog issue promptly.
