‘Time not far when assembly polls will be held in Jammu and Kashmir’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing a public rally in Udhampur reiterated the Central government’s firm commitment to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, alongside the forthcoming conduct of assembly elections.
“The time is not far when assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir will regain its state status, allowing you to share your dreams with your elected representatives, “ he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted the achievement of conducting elections in Jammu and Kashmir without the spectre of terrorism or cross-border firing, reflecting a shift from past challenges.
“Vikas bhi ho raha hai, vishvaas bhi badh raha hai” (progress and confidence are growing), said PM Modi.
The reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir into a Union Territory in October 2019, facilitated by the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019 and the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, has paved the way for developmental initiatives, according to political obserers.
PM Modi also emphasized on the need to form a strong government capable of addressing the nation’s multifaceted challenges, transcending mere electoral representation.
Enumerating the developments witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi remarked, “Now schools are not burnt here, but schools are adorned. Now AIIMS, IITs, and IIMs are being established here. Modern tunnels, expansive roads, and scenic rail journeys are becoming synonymous with Jammu and Kashmir.”
The Prime Minister reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to resolving longstanding issues in Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring comprehensive upliftment and welfare measures for the region’s populace.
The upcoming Lok Sabha election in Udhampur, scheduled for April 19, promises a fiercely contested electoral battle, with Union Minister Jitendra Singh of the BJP seeking re-election against Congress candidate Choudhary Lal Singh, supported by the Peoples Democratic Party.
