State Women’s Commission Chairperson issues notice to Singer Jazzy B

Punjabi singer Jazzy B has become entangled in a burgeoning controversy subsequent to the launch of his latest song, sparking widespread outrage and capturing attention of Punjab State Women’s Commission. The Commission has taken notice of the song’s content, serving Jazzy B with a formal notice amidst allegations of making derogatory remarks towards women.

The notice, dispatched to Jazzy B on his birthday, mandates a response within a week addressing the commission’s concerns regarding the song’s lyrics. Emphasizing the gravity of the matter, the commission has underscored that failure to furnish a satisfactory explanation via email within the stipulated timeframe will prompt further legal action.
Titled “Madak Shakina Di,” the contentious song, authored by lyricist Jeet Kadonwala, has ignited controversy owing to its reported use of offensive language targeting women, depicting them derogatorily akin to sheep.

Responding promptly, the Punjab State Women’s Commission has taken proactive steps to confront the issue, citing the song’s extensive circulation on social media platforms. Both Jazzy B and lyricist Jeet Kadonwala have been summoned to elucidate on the objectionable content and provide requisite clarifications within the designated period.

This development transpires against the backdrop of recent leadership changes within the Punjab State Women’s Commission, with Raj Lali Gill assuming the role of chairperson amidst prior controversies surrounding the appointment process.

Simultaneously, the song has attracted condemnation from farmer organizations in Barnala, with members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union Lakhwala Singh publicly censuring Jazzy B’s use of derogatory language towards women. The timing of the song’s release, coinciding shortly after International Women’s Day on March 8, has evoked heightened criticism from detractors, who perceive it as a setback to initiatives advocating gender equality and women’s respect within Punjabi society.
