Sri Lankan killed in Pak faced extreme torture: Post-mortem

The Sri Lankan factory manager, Priyantha Kumara Diyawadana, who was killed by a mob in Pakistan’s Sialkot in Punjab province over alleged blasphemy, was tortured to an extreme degree, with his skull and other bones of the body registering severe damage, a post-mortem report has revealed, reported Pakistani media.

The report has confirmed a broken skull and burn wounds damaging 99% of the tissues of Priyantha Diyawadana’s body, ARY News reported. Diyawadana’s death occurred owing to multiple hits on his skull. All the bones of his body except that of a leg were found broken, the report said, showing the impact of the extreme torture Diyawadana had to bear before his death, according to ARY News.

On Friday, a mob in Pakistan’s Sialkot had tortured Diyawadana to death before burning his body in over alleged blasphemy. The incident took place in the Wazirabad Road area.

Also on Sunday, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan called Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa assuring him that the criminals who murdered the Sri Lankan national would be punished and justice would be done. Khan informed Rajapaksa that 113 people have been arrested so far. “All the videos and information related to the incident have been obtained by the Pakistani security forces,” the Sri Lankan President’s office said in a statement.

According to Pakistani newspaper Dawn, the police on Sunday arrested six primary suspects alleged to be involved in the lynch

ing of the 49-year-old Sri Lankan factory manager.

Dawn reported that the FIR in the case was registered against “900 workers of Rajco Industries on the application of Uggoki Station House Officer (SHO) Armaghan Maqt” under various sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act. According to Armaghan Maqt, the mob had slapped, kicked, punched and hit Kumara with sticks in his presence, before dragging him out of the factory on Wazirabad Road where he died. The mob then set the body on fire. Dawn added that the SHO admitted that he could not stop the mob as he did not have adequate police personnel with him.
