SMS Hospital successfully removes tumour from infant’s head

In a medical marvel, doctors at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur successfully removed a tumour from the head of a five-month-old baby girl. The baby, born to a resident of Alwar, was initially thought to have a congenital deformity, with rumours circulating in the village about the child having two heads, sparking superstitions.
The infant, delivered via operation, displayed good health, but concerns arose due to the tumour’s presence, which was twice the size of the baby’s head. A doctor in Alwar, influenced by superstition, had reportedly advised the family against surgery, stating that the child wouldn’t survive if operated on. However, the baby faced significant challenges in daily activities due to the tumour.
Sawai Man Singh Hospital’s media spokesperson, Dr Devendra Purohit, clarified that the tumour was connected to the brain. Disregarding the superstitious advice, a team of SMS neurosurgeons, including Dr Sanjeev Chopra, Dr Vinod Sharma, Dr BL Bairwa, and Dr Mohit, along with the anaesthesia team led by Dr Shobha Purohit and Dr Neelu Sharma, performed a successful three-hour operation to remove the tumour.
Following the surgery, the baby spent two days in the intensive care unit but is now completely healthy and able to drink milk. The medical intervention at SMS Hospital has proven to be a life-changing success for the two-month-old baby.
